Alpha 4 is Ready


Hello! Alpha 4 is available with a redesigned overworld map, a new playable level, and of course some bug fixes.

New Overworld Style

After much fuss I've switched to to 100% billboard sprites for objects in the overworld. It used to be a mix between 3D and sprites. I did this so as not to diverge the art style so much between regular levels and the overworld. With the 3D objects in the scene, I was starting to have to deal with a bunch of lighting issues, and I didn't have a good rule when deciding which objects should be 3D and which should be sprites. It ended up looking messy, and too different from the core style I envisioned.

The terrain itself is still 3D, but now all objects are sprites. I cleaned up the art, and now signs are used as entry points for levels. Here's how it turned out.


New Level: Gumdrop Hills

There's a new location in the meadow called Gumdrop Hills. It has a lot of elevation changes to encourage bouncing around. There are some tough spots where you've got to deal with multiple enemies shooting at you at the same time. It also uses a different tile set than the other meadow locations so far.
